Did you know that Google Search console crawl data includes crawling from paid ad bots?
Hello. Thanks for listening to SEO tips today.
From a recent Google Hangout where a user asked,
How accurate is the crawl stats report in Google Search Console?
And John Meuller from Google replied:
The report is accurate. It’s based on what we pull out of our crawling logs. But, it includes URLs fetched from other Google services (like Google Ads, product search, etc.) It’s not just Googlebot.
So then not very accurate for SEO purposes….The only way to see true organic crawl demand on your site is by looking in your server logs for Googlebot activity. I love using Screaming Frog’s Log Analyzer for this.
Thanks for listening. Come back tomorrow for another SEO tip.

Hi,
I have a question and I haven’t been able to find an answer.
Google Search Console, Keysearch, and jetpack all have similar stats. Weekdays I get around 500 page views a day and weekends around 1K.
Google analytics shows that I average between 150 – 200 page views a day. How can those two numbers be so far off?

GSC is based on queries in Google and clicks to your website, so they should match more closely your log files. Google Analytics is based on having JS code fire to track a pageview. There are a variety of reasons why that pageview might not be fired. You can learn a bit more about the differences in how GA vs GSC measures a visit/session in their documentation: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1308626?hl=en
