Let’s talk about using Reddit for SEO research.
Hello. Thanks for listening to SEO tips today.
Did you know that 26.4 million Americans Use Reddit monthly? Or that it’s the 6th most popular site in the US?
Users on Reddit are anonymous. For that reason, it’s a great tool to use when you’re conducting keyword research brainstorming, trying to generate personas for your target audience, and planning content marketing campaigns.
There’s a whole art to joining Reddit and activity posting, and this tip is not focused on that. However, I think everyone should lurk on Reddit and use it as an audience and topic research tool.
Reddit is broken down into subreddits by topic.
You get started by going to Reddit and creating an account and getting to know the subreddits that work for your audience. Go ahead and join them and lurk. There’s a list of popular subreddits at Redditlist.com, but you can also just go to Reddit and search and browse.
You can search for topics in subreddits where the users are looking for answers like:
- “how do you”
- “figure out”
- “I’m struggling with”
- “Tips” or
- “biggest challenge”
While you can go directly to Reddit to conduct research, there are also a few ways that you can use outside tools to get Reddit insights as well.
- You can use the free Reddit keyword research tool.
- You can also take the subreddit closest to your audience and put it in your favorite SEO ranking analysis tool to see what posts rank and for what terms.
While you are getting your feet wet with Reddit, there are two very active SEO subreddits you could join, TechSEO and BigSEO. The Big SEO also has regular AMAs that are worth following.
And if you are looking to generate content marketing ideas (to build links) from Reddit, there’s no better presentation to view than Daniel Russel’s from the 2017 MozCon.
So that’s your tip for today. Add Reddit to your keyword research brainstorming process and use it for content planning to get more familiar with the platform and with your target audience.
Thanks for listening. Come back tomorrow for another SEO tip.
