Are your inbound links rotting?
Hello, thanks for listening to SEO tips today.
As many of you during this time of social distancing I’m working in a garden, so decomposition is on my mind today.
Your tip today is actually a link building tip as I haven’t given you a link building tip yet. Today’s tip is focused on monitoring your brand mentions and making sure that you get a link from that mention back to your website. It’s pretty easy to set up a Google news alert or an alert in your favorite SEO tool to be notified of new mentions. And if there’s not a link from those mentions, you can outreach to the other webmaster to see if you can get a link.
Recently, Google clarified that they don’t use online brand mentions (without a link) as a factor in ranking, regardless of what the SEO community has thought over the years. So it’s even more important to outreach to get those mentions turned into links to increase your ranking as well as increase the referral visits to your website.
Once you find the mention, you need to find the webmaster’s email. I would recommend using Buzzstream (if you have an account) and then set up a template that you can use for outreach. Buzzstream makes this easy, and I have a few examples of these types of outreach email templates on my blog.
A few additional tips.
Be a real person and nicely ask them if they would add a link from the reference of your brand to your website.
You might also want to follow up as most webmasters are swamped with maintenance and publishing tasks and editing links is not their highest priority.
So that’s your tip for today – monitor and see if you can turn those brand mentions into links.
Thanks for listening. Come back tomorrow for another SEO tip.
